2 January 2006 Genealogy

Happy New Year! The genealogy has been updated after a long wait.

First, the Ancestors of Jacques Caudebec is now available, taken from the below mentioned Caudebec in France and England. Four generations back, and in Bolbec, France, not Caudebec-en-Caux as so many thought. Eight miles apart. A big thanks to Cousin Elwyn Simons for his great work translating the records. And to Cousin Michael Gabler for suggesting a source for the records, right here in the United States, on microfilm, courtesy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Second, the Descendants of Jacques Caudebec has been updated. Many new cousins have chimed in to refine the details. These cousins have spurred the family genealogists to research more extensively as well. Thanks to all who have contributed.

1 January 2006 Chat Board Status

The Chat Board has been shut down. Two reasons. The family wasn't using it, for whatever reason. And second, it was a target for spam. No way to prevent it, but we don't need the kind of thing we get in spam email posted on the web site. If you're interested in administering the Chat Board, send email to the Webmaster.

26 June 2005 Caudebec in France and England: The Origins of Jacques Caudebec

The New England Historic Genealogical Society is proud to announce the publication of Caudebec in France and England: The Origins of Jacques Caudebec, 1664-abt. 1764-1766, of Bolbec, France and Deerpark, New York, Ancestor of the Cuddeback Family in America by Elwyn L. Simons. The book reveals the Caudebec family's origins, discovered by first crossing the Atlantic to unravel the story of his sisters in London, England, and then "jumping the channel" to Normandy. Identifying for the first time the origins of Jacques Caudebec (later known as Jacob Caudebec), this new work traces his ancestry back three additional generations. Ordering information: $29.95 plus postage and handling — Call the New England Historic Genealogical Society toll-free at 1-888-296-3447, Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM Eastern time. Or order online.

14 September 2000 Charlie Swartwout is leaving the Peenpack Patent. Here's what Bob Cuddeback, President of Cuddeback Family, Inc. says about this in an email to Charlie dated 14 September 2000.

Dear Charlie,

Your good wife, Nancy, told me last week that you're moving to Tennessee on Sept. 23rd. This is really the end of an era. When my father sold his farm in the 1920s, he said that it was the last Cuddeback property on the "peenpack flats" that belonged to a descendent of Jacques Caudebec. And now, about 80 years later, with your move to Tennessee, the last Swartwout, a descendent of the original pioneers, is relinquishing his land, again, on the original patent.

When I mentioned a gala good-by party to you, you were rather firm in declining such a thing, saying only that you'll be getting up to New York occasionally and we could get together then.

I don't think your exit should go unnoticed. After all you were a key figure in organizing the reunion last year, and also the key figure in creating the Cuddeback Family, Inc. You opened your house to everybody at the reunion and you were the Master of Ceremonies at the Saturday night banquet. In addition you have been President of the Minisink Valley Historical Society for I don't know how many years.

With email and long distance telephones around it's not like you're dropping off the end of the earth but I would hope you'd continue to help us out with the Cuddeback Family, Inc. What do you and Nancy think about that?

I guess a lot of people in the Deerpark area will be thinking the same way as Katie and myself, that is, it won't be the same without a Swartwout living on Swartwout Road.

All the best in the future,
Bob and Katie Cuddeback
