Building the
Cuddeback Family, Inc. Web Site

The original idea for the Cuddeback Family web site started at the reunion in July of 1999. Ann Elizabeth Marie Robitaille (7th great grandaughter of Jacques Caudebec) designed the original web page, adapting and editing available materials and posting them in her family‘s web space. Of particular note is the beautiful work Ann did on the Caudebec Family Crest. She colored it according to the description of it in the Caudebec in America book. Ann received suggestions and feedback from other family members and personnel at her High School. Much of the historical and reunion material on the current web site is taken directly from Ann‘s work.

In July 2000, Robert “Jake” Jakoubek (7th Great-Grandson of Jacques), in the course of his own genealogical research, discovered Cuddeback Family, Inc. and volunteered to honcho the current site. Jake plagiarized shamelessly from Ann‘s work and created, with copious encouragement and generous suggestions from both Robert “Bob” Cuddeback – President of Cuddeback Family, Inc. – and Elizabeth “Liz” Poland Cuddeback Robitaille (Ann's mother) – Treasurer of Cuddeback Family, Inc., the site you now see. Jake continues to serve as the Cuddeback Family, Inc. Webmaster. Jake‘s family web site is at www.jakoubek.org.

Michael Gene Gabler (7th Great-Grandson) took his personal genealogical work and incorporated the copious data provided him at the 1999 reunion to provide the genealogical listing seen on the site. Michael, along with Jake, continues to serve as the Cuddeback Family, Inc. Genealogist. Michael‘s genealogical data and other Gabler family materials are also posted on his site at www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/a/b/Michael-G-Gabler/.

The opinions stated on the rest of this page are those of the Webmaster and not an official position of Cuddeback Family, Inc.

Standards The site uses the current standards for the preparation of web pages. In particular, HTML 4.01 and Cascading Style Sheets, level 1 were used rigourously. The pages were validated against those standards. To read more about this, visit the World Wide Web Consortium.
HTML Content was prepared using HomeSite from Allaire. HomeSite provides the designer with excellent access to both the fundamental code used to view the content and has excellent support for the latest standards for providing web content. In particular, it supports the use of Cascading Style Sheets which permit the changing of formatting (colors, backgrounds, etc.) in only one place without having to edit every individual page.
CSS The style sheets were prepared using TopSite from Bradsoft. TopSite is a highly useable editor for Cascading Style Sheets.
Photos Photographs used on the pages were edited where necessary using Paint Shop Pro from Jasc Software. The usual editing was to reduce the size of the photographs so they would properly appear within the bounds of the formatting.
Browsers This site is optimized for use with the Firfox browser, since Firefox is the most widely used free browser that also strictly conforms to the HTML standard.
